Finally, Ava had found an affordable two bedroom apartment that she could afford with the only job she had to support herself and her daughter. Nina was with her parents in Maryland for the weekend while Ava went apartment hunting. Living in a one bedroom apartment was becoming too stressful and sharing a bedroom with her daughter resulted in a lot of sleepless nights. She sat in the tiny office of the manager as he went over the lease. It took about a good half hour before it was time for her to sign. The man had made her copies in which she took. With a shake of his hand, Ava was now the renter of a two bedroom and could move in as soon as possible.
Walking down the first flight of stairs, she sighs as she drops her papers and picks them up. Ava continues to walk out the set of doors, not looking up as she sorted through her leasing papers. It had been close to Nina's first birthday and Ava really wanted to get this apartment before then. It was a big weight lifted from her shoulders now that she had it. Things were finally starting to look up for her. Maybe finally, she was going to get a break.
After Ava had found out she was pregnant, it had been nothing but lows for her. From dropping out of college to become a single mother to getting a full time low income job just to make ends meat for her and her daughter. If it wasn't for her parents helping her with the apartment, she wasn't sure how she would have pulled any of it off. Finding Nina's father, Taylor, was still up in the air and given up on. Ava had no idea where he was or if he was ever coming back. She was probably long forgotten about and there her search ended. It was time to focus just on her daughter.
As she rounded the block around the building, Ava had bumped into something solid, dropping her papers again. With a sigh, she doesn't look up and frantically starts picking up the papers yet again before the wind took them. "Sorry. Should have been paying attention."
